Experts have been underlining important nuances to do with the ‘R’ Rate in relation to the current spike in cases in Germany, where authorities in the Goettingen and North Rhine Westphalia regions called on police at the weekend to enforce quarantine measures after struggling to get people to adhere to isolation rules.
While Germany has been widely regarded as a success story in Europe, the country’s reproduction rate of virus infections jumped to 2.88, based on a 4-day average, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) for public health said on Sunday.
The relatively few cases in Germany explain the surge of R to 2.8 with one outbreak. If one of the two UK residents caused an outbreak in NZ (where there haven’t been new cases for weeks) last week and infected ten others, then technically the average R becomes 10. https://t.co/jOAx6u2nE7
