For years, Priyanka Gandhi has been a mystery to the Indian public. Considered the most charismatic member of the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty that has given India three prime ministers – including her mother, Sonia, and brother Rahul – she has nonetheless chosen to remain in the wings, playing a supporting role.
For years she has resisted calls to lead from the front by her own Congress party, sections of which regard her as “prime ministerial” material owing to her commanding personality, instead choosing to prioritise her private life with her husband and two children.
