Myanmar junta frees more than 2,000 anti-coup protesters
Critics of regime and journalists among those released but thousands remain in detention
Myanmar’s military junta has released more than 2,000 prisoners, including peaceful protesters and journalists who have been held in detention for months.
Crowds gathered outside the notorious Insein prison on Wednesday morning, waiting throughout the day for their relatives and friends to be freed. More than 700 people were released, but thousands more remain inside detention facilities, where there have been widespread reports of torture.
