With a combination of dogged persistence, commitment to communities in affected countries and impeccable research design, Nick White changed their minds.<\/p>\n<p>He led a campaign to make antimalarial drug combinations containing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/2012\/feb\/05\/malaria-drug-synthesis-peter-seeberger\">artemisinin<\/a>, extracted in China from a common plant, the globally recommended treatment for the most common form of malaria.
