Country\u2019s foreign minister says UN climate summits have produced \u2018no results\u2019 as Pacific nation takes the rare step of withdrawing from upcoming Cop29<\/p>\n

Papua New Guinea\u2019s decision to pull out of an upcoming UN global climate summit due to frustration over \u201cempty promises and inaction\u201d has prompted concern from climate advocates, who fear the move will isolate the Pacific nation and put vital funding at risk.<\/p>\n

Prime minister James Marape announced in August the country would not attend<\/a> Cop29 in \u201cprotest at the big nations\u201d for a lack of \u201cquick support to victims of climate change\u201d. Then last week, foreign affairs minister Justin Tckatchenko, confirmed Papua New Guinea would withdraw from high-level talks at the summit, which <\/strong>begins on 11 November in Baku, Azerbaijan<\/a>, describing it as \u201ca total waste of time\u201d.<\/p>\n
