But analysts say the reaction from China\u2019s ruling Communist party has been relatively muted so far, despite the success of Taiwan\u2019s ruling Democratic Progressive party (DPP) \u2013 which Beijing loathes as \u201cseparatists\u201d \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2024\/jan\/16\/taiwan-election-president-elect-lai-ching-te-democracy-china\">in retaining the presidency<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday morning Taiwan\u2019s defence ministry reported the People\u2019s Liberation Army had sent 24 planes and five navy vessels into Taiwan\u2019s air defence identification zone in the previous 24 hours, the first incursion of significant size since November.
