But there is more to this town in western <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/japan\">Japan<\/a> than pretty views and agricultural output. Nagi is quietly producing what much of the rest of the country is lacking: children.<\/p>\n<p>On a recent afternoon, groups of schoolchildren weighed down by their <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2023\/feb\/07\/old-school-backpacks-too-heavy-japans-pupils-complain\">randoseru<\/a><\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2023\/feb\/07\/old-school-backpacks-too-heavy-japans-pupils-complain\"> <\/a>stopped off at the museum of contemporary art on their way home.
