Chinese president tells summit involving political parties of 160 nations that any country stopping another\u2019s development must be opposed<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The Chinese president, Xi Jinping, has urged political parties worldwide to oppose any country that engages in \u201ctechnology blockades\u201d \u2013 an allusion to the US, which views China as its strategic competitor.<\/p>\n
As US president Joe Biden\u2019s administration has sought support from like-minded democracies including the European Union and Japan to coordinate a tougher stance against China, Beijing has doubled down on seeking support and affirmation from friendly nations such as North Korea and Serbia.<\/p>\n
\u201cTogether, we must oppose all acts of unilateralism in the name of multilateralism, hegemony and power politics,\u201d Xi told a virtual gathering of representatives of 500 parties from 160 countries such as Russia, Zimbabwe, Cuba and Burkina Faso on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
\u201cLooking from the angle of \u2018my country first\u2019, the world is narrow and crowded and often full of fierce competition,\u201d Xi said in apparent reference to former US president Donald Trump\u2019s \u201cAmerica first\u201d policy.<\/p>\n
