Until now, progress on many of those hallmark issues <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2021\/may\/13\/ardern-new-zealand-budget-child-poverty-spending\">has been plodding <\/a>\u2013 or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2021\/apr\/01\/new-zealand-mental-health-crisis-has-worsened-under-labour-data-shows\">at times non-existent<\/a> \u2013 making critics sceptical of whether the rhetoric on wellbeing had lined up with reality.
